Neeka is regarded as one of Belgium’s most cherished singer-songwriters and up till now has made 3 critically acclaimed and successful albums.
Her self-titled debut album (1999) brought her to the public eye with a cover of Tom Robinson's “Listen to the Radio.” The cover resulted in a double bill tour with Tom Robinson who was stunned by her song writing and feeling for the English language.
Candy Comfort (2002) was Neeka’s breakthrough album with the big hit, “Don't hold me back,” a duet with Zita Swoon frontman Stef Kamil Carlens. The song received massive airplay on all radio stations in Belgium and Holland. Neeka played big festivals that year (T/W, Dranouter, Crossing border) and toured Europe with Hooverphonic.
After that Neeka became a mother and later on made the album that she had in her head for a long time: Women Wonderland (2005). The album is a contemporary pop album with a natural swing that is coloured by classical instruments like harpsichord, organ and lute. The wondrous events in Neeka’s life provide an extra sparkle to the songs on this album. 'Women Wonderland' shows Neeka's international experience more clearly than ever. As with any talented artist, Neeka’s gift is in the details. The album has eleven songs that went beyond her previous influences and exposes an authentic musical style. The music is pop but with unusual and beautiful sounds and a very natural biorhythm. Universal Belgium hears the album and is sold on it immediately. Butterfly, the single from that album became the next Neeka classic.
In between albums, Neeka recorded a beautiful duet with MINT: ”The more I” and participated in different musical projects.(Neil young tribute, vocals for singer Songwriter Venus in Flames,...)
Right now (!) Neeka is finishing her fourth album. She travelled to Richmond, Virginia in the U.S. to work with producer, John Morand (Sparklehorse, Jason Molina,MINT...), at Sound of Music recording studio. As always, the song writing on this album is outstanding and sound wizard John Morand helps Neeka create that universe where excellent melodies, folk, a hint of jazz, sitars, violins, and synths all come together in what still remains pop music! Always there's that beautiful voice that can bring up a whole range of emotions; sometimes breaking your heart, then filling you with pure joy but always a comfort to the soul. On all her albums, Neeka always works with the finest people and on this album, Neeka was pleased to get help from a.o. Alan Weatherhead(Sparklehorse, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker,A Camp...) and Miguel Urbiztondo (Daniel Johnston, Nina Perrson/Cardigans, Cracker...)apart from the delightful musicians from her liveband.
All this results in Neeka’s finest album to date which catapults her above the line of influence with an emotional intimacy that makes Neeka the world’s new old friend. Enjoy!

Artiesten maken albums en treden op. Dat is hun dagelijks leven.
Ondertussen werken ze aan een Groter Plan. Een vaste plek in de popencyclopedie, een straffe erelijst, een eigen gezicht, sterke nummers
‘Car’ van Neeka is een heel sterk nummer. Ze had al een flink palmares. Denk aan ‘More Than You’ en ‘Butterfly’. Of ‘Don’t Hold Me Back’, het duet met Stef Kamil Carlens.
Maar ‘Car’ is toch van een andere orde. Het is een logisch vervolg en een onverwachte wending. Het laat tegelijkertijd luisteren en dansen. Het klinkt stout en bijt zich vast. Allemaal kenmerken van een heel sterk nummer.
Dat komt er dus van. Neeka heeft sinds ‘Women Wonderland’ (2006) een belangrijke beslissing genomen. Ze kiest voluit - en voltijds - voor het artiestenbestaan.
Er is de voorbije jaren dan ook flink wat nieuwe wind door haar wereld gewaaid. Ze kweekt spieren met Mint en de “boys” (Gert Bettens, Ruben Block...) van het project ‘Living Hero. A Tribute To Neil Young.’ Ze laat van zich horen op platen van Venus In Flames en Didier François. En ze staat zowaar in de finale van ‘Zo Is Er Maar Eén’ aan de zijde van Yevgueni.
Haar nieuwe credo is “Great Songs, No Rules”. En eigenlijk is dat altijd zo geweest. Neeka heeft evenveel geleerd van Wham! als van Fairport Convention. Of gehouden van Julie Andrews en Underworld Haar grondstof komt een beetje van overal maar het wordt altijd 100 procent popmuziek.
Folk blijft zekereen grote invloed. Dat merk je aan de liefde voor melodie en meerstemmigheid (eindelijk terug in!). Of de durf om ongewone instrumenten te gebruiken als banjo, mandoline of sitar. Stevigere drums en uitgelaten beats ook op dit album.
In die vaak verrassende combinatie van traditie en pop is ze erg verwant met hedendaagse fenomenen als Animal Collective, MGMT en het door haar erg bewonderde Yeasayer.
Car’ is de aanvoerder van een opmerkelijke bende. ‘Child In The Wild’ laat een “wildere “neeka horen. ‘Orphan Boy’ valt op door zijn trage trance en zijn oosterse inslag. ‘Baby Don’t Cry’ is een duister troostliedje; ‘Believe’ een sublieme meezinger die je luid kan laten knallen in de auto.
Neeka vindt op‘Robin’ een goede balans – ze is weegschaal – tussen a) wat ze wil en b) wat ze hoopt teweeg te brengen.
De Amerikaanse producer John Morand zorgt voor vakkennis en afstand. Dat laatste is letterlijk te nemen. Neeka leeft 3 weken in de Sound Of Music Studios in Richmond, Virginia (VS).
Het is een opnameplek zoals wij ons die graag dromen. Wat rafelig en rommelig en meer ontmoetingruimte dan werkplek. Op de referentielijst staan The Kills, Daniel Johnston, Sparklehorse, Mint – vandaar de connectie – en heel veel punkgroepen.
Morand bleek de ideale boksbal voor Neeka. Hij is ogenschijnlijk nonchalant maar heeft alles perfect onder controle. Hij dringt niets op maar spreekt in wijze mantra’s als “Ilike it when you push yourself to the limit”. Dat klinkt als: een goede guru.
'Robin’ gaat over Carla Bruni, over roodborstjes, over wintermoeheid, over het koesteren van geluk en over de binnenkant van Neeka. Producer Morand vindt het eindresultaat ‘catchy and quirky’. Pakkend met een onverwachte twist, is dat. Het is volgens hem iets ‘typisch Belgisch’. Laat Neeka in dat geval maar ‘typisch Belgisch’ zijn.
